Professional Development Reflection on GEOB 270 (Introduction to GIS)

My Personal Statement in line with the skills and knowledge I acquired in my introductory Geographic Information Science (GIS) course.

Geographic Information Science (GIS) introduced me to the practical application of learning theoretical Geography, and GEOB 270 (the introductory GIS course) has equipped me with the soft skills to critically think through research analysis, especially for the final project wherein my group and I had to create our own scenario and our own maps. More significantly, the course taught me invaluable hard skills such as navigating through ArcMap, Accessing and downloading data sets, creating a new Geodatabase through ArcCatalog, and creating a comprehensive eportfolio with the use of Wordpress.

I have learned how to read and create maps, but I also learned how maps are the simplest form of real world representation, which can be easily skewed by improper choice of data classification (data categorization) or by improper projection. Taking for example the Mercator projection versus the Robinson projection.
